A decorative pair of French fireplace andirons, or fire dogs, dating from around 1920. Each piece is constructed from blackened iron and finished with an ornamental brass finial.

The iron bases feature strong rectangular supports with elegant curled front feet, while the brass uprights are richly shaped with classical detailing and rounded finials. The contrast between the dark iron and aged brass gives the pair a refined and characterful appearance.

Originally designed to support logs inside a fireplace, these andirons are both functional and highly decorative. The brass has developed an attractive natural patina, while the iron shows age-related surface wear consistent with their use and age.
