Atmospheric oil painting on canvas by Dutch artist Peter Brouwer, dating from the 1960s and depicting the Montelbaanstoren and the historic waterfront of Amsterdam.
The composition shows traditional sailing boats in the foreground, with the distinctive Montelbaanstoren rising above the city skyline. Brouwer worked the paint in a rich, expressive manner, applying thick layers of oil paint predominantly with a palette knife. This strong impasto technique gives the surface considerable texture and creates striking reflections of light across the water and sky.
The subdued brown, ochre and grey tones are contrasted by touches of red, green and golden yellow, giving the harbour scene a dramatic and atmospheric character.
Signed by the artist in the lower left corner and presented in a decorative gilt frame.
